Ghana’s national team Coach Avram Grant has vowed not to select any player who doesn’t want to play for the team. Insisting the West African nation must never succumb to the level of begging players to come and join the team as happened in the past, when players like Suley Muntari, Michael Essien and Kevin Prince Boateng were implored into taking part in the 2014 World Cup team in Brazil, which in the end culminated in troubles and indiscipline.
The Former Chelsea manager says he will NEVER thread along those lines to call a players into the national team even after showing they don’t want to play for the country. Adding, the players must convince him that they deserve to play in the national team before they are inviting them to play in the team.
“The players need to convince me that they deserve to be in the squad. I will not convince any player,” the Israeli coach told a press conference.
“The day that Ghana begs for players to play – that day Ghana is finished.
“As long as I am here they need to be proud that they are in the team.
“There are three criteria for Ghana call-ups and those are quality, good personality and desire to play for the national team.
“A player cannot play in the national team if he does not have the desire. All players in the squad have these qualities.
“If there is a player who does not want to be here, he can say it to me and I will not call him.”
Ghana, who face Mozambique in their third group match of the African Cup Of Nations 2017 qualifiers, could seal an early qualification as early as next week if they can secure victory in both legs of the two-legged ties against OS Mambas.
The Black Stars are currently top of Group H with maximum points from their first two games against Rwanda and Mauritius, whom them thrashed 7-1 in their opening game of the campaign. And with their next two games against bottom team in the group, Mozambique, securing qualification is feasible for the Black stars.
The first leg will be in Accra on Thursday before the return encounter at the Estádio do Zimpeto in Maputo next week.
