GAM FOOTBALL NEWS:
Gambian defender Bubacarr Sanneh scored his first league for FC Midtjylland against AaB Aalborg in the Danish Superliga playoffs.
Sanneh who joined Midtjylland during the mid-winter break early this year from another Danish side, A.C Horsens, where he had spent three good years including his first spell on loan in 2014, which led to him signing a permanent move the following year in 2015, got of the mark with his team’s first goal in an epic play off match on Sunday afternoon, which ended 3 – 3.
Sanneh’s goal which came in the 19th minute of the game, was his first goal in a Midtjylland shirt, and had helped kick start the goal rout which saw 6 goals scored in the course of the 90 minutes at Aalborg’s Portland Park. Former Tottenham hotspur midfielder Filip Lesniak brought the home side level eight minutes later, before his Slovakian compatriot, Pavol Šafranko added a second to give Aalborg a 2 – 1 first half lead, which they held on to take into the half-time break.
Midtjylland bounced back after the break to find an equaliser through Danish midfielder Jakob Poulsen, but again it didn’t take long before Aalborg found themselves in the driven seat through 19-year-old Wessam Abou Ali’s 77th goal.
But this is no ordinary a game, with Buba Sanneh’ s Midtjylland still within distance from the title, five points behind Brondby at the top of the league, were in no mood to concede defeat to their Aalborg rivals, who have not beaten them since 2014, and luckily there was still another throw on the dice and this time it went them, with Nigerian youngster Frank Onyeka, 20, becoming the unlikely hero, scoring the much needed equaliser on the 90th minute mark to deny hosts AaB the victory just two minutes after coming on to replace Tim Sparv, and the goal ensured Midtjylland stays on Brondby IF’s trail in the title race, with just five games left to play for the season.
Sanneh had a very laudable goal scoring record for a defender during his time at former club, AC Horsens , where he had scored 17 goals over the two spells at the club in about 117 games and it was not surprising to see him on the score sheet again, and hope more will follow.
