Manchester city midfielder Yaya Toure has announced his retirement from International football after 12 years of representing the Ivory Coast national team.
Toure, made his debut for the Elephants in 2004, before going on to earn102 international caps, representing the team at three FIFA Wotld Cups, in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
The 33 year-old also represented his country in six Africa Cup of Nation championships, in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015, helping them finish runner-up in both 2006 and 2012, before eventually captaining the team to lift the cup in 2015.
The former Olympiakos and Barcelona midfielder enjoyed a really illustrious international career and has won the African best player award in an incredible four times, in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and finished runner up in the 2015 awards behind Dortmund’s Gabonese striker Pierre Emerick Aubermayang.
The giant midfielder has left the International scene as a real giant.
