ALI SOWE MOVED JOINT TOP SCORER

Gambian forward Ali Sowe became joint top scorer in the Albanian Superliga, after scoring his 13th goal of the season last night to propel Skenderbeu Ķorce to the brink of their 7th league title.

The Gambian forward got off the mark in the 1st minute of the game against Flamurtari on Monday evening to move alongside Kukësi’s Sindri Guri as the league’s joint top scorers, with only eight games remaining for the season.

Sowe, 23, who joined the club on loan from Italian side Chievo, is enjoying a fantastic season in the Albanian to flight, playing his best football since moving to Europe. He has scored more goals than any Skenderbeu player this term and his goals have brought the club within distance of yet another league title, their 6th consecutive titles since 2011, which broke the Albanian record held by Dinamo Tirana, who had won four consecutive titles in the 1950s.

                                                                    Sowe fires Skenderbeu ahead

The Korçe-based side have bounced back from last week’s upheavals, which saw them handed a hefty fine and a ten year suspension from all European competitions by UEFA for manipulating games for betting purposes, which spanned over eight years dating back from 2010. And as if that was not enough, they were then beaten at home in the first leg of the Albanian League Cup semi-finals last week by last night’s opponent Flamurtari, who went home with a 1-0 away victory. But they say revenge is always sweeter, Sowe and co rallied last night to destroy their nemesis in breath taken fashion, from the 1st minute when Sowe put his side ahead in just 27 seconds.

And the team, who started the game with terrific pace, making it really hard for the host to keep up with them, didn’t take long before they found the second in 12th minute from Bruno Dita, after a great work from Muzaka down the right, whose cross was dummied by Sowe for Dita to finish, leaving the Flamurtari defence for dead.

The dazed home side failed to get any reaction after the break and again within minutes of the restart, fell further behind after just 3 minutes, when Albanian Enis Gavazaj fired in the winner and Skenderbeu’s third goal of the night, following a quick counterattack. It was a spectacular shot, which came at the end of a brilliant dribble past the opposing defense before releasing a bitter left footed shot into net.

The Victory means Skenderbeu remains top after 28 games on 63 points, 12 points ahead of second placed Kukësi, who are on 51 points with the same amount of games played and 8 league games remaining.
