Baboucarr Steve Trawally started from where he had left off last season in CSL by scoring on his Guizhou Zhicheng home debut.
The 23-year-old Gambian tallisman, who banged 18 goals in the last Chinese Super League season, fired his first for new club Guizhou Hengfeng on the stroke of half-time to give his team some hope going into the break, after conceding two quickfire goals in the first 13 minutes of the game at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre.
An 8th minute strike from BrazilIan striker, Alex Teixeira and a second from 20-year-old Chinese forward Zichang Huang gave Jiangsu Suning a two goal lead in the opening game of the season.
Steve brought his side back into the game after firing in his first goal of the season in the 45th minute. Although it was not enough to salvage a result for Gregorio Manzana’s side. A second from Teixeira in the 8th minute increased the deficit to give Jiangsu a 3-1 away victory.
But despite ending on the losing side, the Gambian forward, who now wears the Number 9 side at Guizhou, as opposed to the 10 he had won at former club Yanbian, shared his delight about scoring on his full debut.
“Grateful to God for opening my Guizhou Zhicheng career with a goal against Jiangsu Suning. Despite the result not going our way, we can only pick positives from our performance and build on our strengths,” the former Real de Banjul star wrote on his twitter feed.
The former Real de Banjul forward completed his move to Guizhou Hengfeng last week on a free transfer from Yanbian Fude after an acrimonious fall-out with the relegated side, who tried to block his move despite tendering a transfer request, and with less than 10 months left on his contract the matter was referred to FIFA for intervention, which led to the star been allowed to move on free.
