Swansea City star Andre Ayew will compete with fellow Black Stars teammates, Baba Rahman, Rabiu Mohammed Mubarak Wakasoand Mubarak Wakaso for the 2015 Ghana Muslim Achievers Award.

The award which is organized by Sukra Concepts is aimed at rewarding outstanding Ghanaian Muslims in the year under review to encourage others to aim high.

After losing the African Footballer of the Year Award to Gabonese striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Andre looks set for the Sports Personality of the year at the Ghana Muslims Achievers Awards, which is slated for the 29th of January at the National Theatre.

Organizers of the event Sukra Concepts disclosed that there are other categories but the sports personality award is among the top categories highly contended.

Andre, a son to former Ghana legend Abedi Pele bore a Christian name but their appearance alongside his younger brother Jordan in Muslim clothes while performing Salah ( Muslim prayer) at a Mosque revealed they are Muslims despite their names suggesting they belong to a different religion.

Both of their parents Abedi Ayew and Maha Ayew are Muslims and the two former Olympique Marseille players have shown great commitment to their Islamic faith.

That appearance put to rest all doubts about the religion of the players as they have rarely shown their religious commitment in public up till then.

Ghana is a predominantly Christian country with approximately 71.2% of the country’s population being member of various Christian denominations as of 2010 census, however it has a significant number of Muslims which is believed to be around 18% of the population with their presence in modern-day Ghana dating back to the 10th century to coincide with the demise of the Ghana Empire.
