Angry Savoy Denies He Was Sacked As Gambia Coach.

The former Gambia national team coach Raoul Savoy has denied he was sacked by the Gambia Football Federation when he left the job in 2015.

The Swiss coach, who is currently the coach of Central African Republic was incensed by questions surrounding the circumstances of his departure in 2015, after only 6 months into his tenure.

A furious Savoy hit back to set tge records, where he accused reporters of lying about him being sacked.

“First of all they never sacked me, I want you guys, all of you to stop the lie,” raged the former Scorpion coach.

“I was never sacked, I quit because my wife was very sick, so I took the decision to talk with the ministry of sports in Zurich and the GFF.

“And I told them I can’t continue because I have to be with my wife for couple of months, so stop lying about that, I was never sacked, but I quit.”

Savoy, 44, was speaking at a press conference in The, Gambia last weekend after his Central Africa side held the Scorpions to a 1-1 draw at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The widely travelled coach, who is on his 14th coaching job including two spells with current team, became The Gambia’s coach in May 2015, to replace Peter Bonu Johnson, however, his tenure was surprisingly ended 6 months down the line, when the GFF announced they’d parted ways with him following a string of poor results, which saw the country’s attempt to make the World Cup of in Russia end in futility yet again, after the team were eliminated in the preliminary round of the by Namibia.

In announcing Savoy’s departure at tge time of his leaving , the GFF’s Second Vice President, Mr Ebou Faye revealed the coach was relieved of his duties by mutual consent.

“We have a mutual agreement amongst the stakeholders to terminate the services of Raoul,” said Faye.

“The coach himself has been contacted about this development and hence we want to move on, it is important that we take a different approach,” Faye added.

Savoy was later replaced by Sang Ndong, aftsr failing to win any of his five games in charge including a famous one all draw against South Africa in Durham, in an African cup qualifier in 2015, a result which was hailed by most Gambian fans at the time.

However, the 2-1 lost away to Namibia, which followed a frustrating 1-1 draw at home in the preliminary rounds of Russia 2018 became the straw that broke the Camel’s back.
