The Gambia’s league champions: Gamtel and the FA Cup champions: Wallidan have both been drawn against Algerian oppositions in the 2016 CAF Champion’s league and the Confederations Cup.
Gamtel who were in the draw held in Senegal last weekend have been drawn against Olympique Club De Kouribga of Algeria for the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds of 32.
The Gambian champions will be travelling to the Algerian capital, Algiers, in February next year for the first leg of their two-legged tie and the return leg in Banjul will subsequetly follow, two weeks later.
The winner over the two legs will make it into the round of 16 as the initial 32 teams get trimmed down to 16 and if Gamtel wins they will have to go past Tunisian club, Etoile Sahel In the round of 16.
The winners of the round of 16 ties will qualify for the Champions League group stage whilst the losers will enter CAF Confederation Cup play-offs.
Again if Gamtel are the winners, they will face either Vipers of Uganda, Enyimba of Nigeria, Lioli of Lesotho or Vital’O of Burundi in the group stage which is set to be in April 2016.
In the meantime, the FA Cup champions Wallidan have also drawn against another Algerian club, MC Oman in the CAF Confederation Cup and the two clubs will also meet in Algiers For the first leg, followed by the second leg in Banjul a week later.
Gamtel had a brilliant season in the domestic campaign last season which saw them clinch the 2014-2015 Gambia Football Federation domestic division one league in stunning fashion.
Wallidan on the other hand claimed the 2014-2015 FA Cup after beaten the incumbent league champions: Gamtel 2-0 in the final played at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama.
