Mesut ozil set to become Premier league’s assist King

Arsenal’s German midfielder Mesut Ozil is on course to become the Premier League’s king of assists, as he set out to break former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry’s  record for assists after providing yet another goal scoring opportunity for the Gunners, this time through Aaron Ramsey in his team’s 2 – 0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.  The goal was Arsenal’s second of the afternoon having taking the lead from the penalty spot through Olivier, following Alan Hutton’s reckless foul on Theo Walcot early in the first half.

Ozil got congratulated by Aaron Ramsey following his goal against Villa

Ramsey’s goal was Ozil’s 13 assists in 15 Premier League appearances this term for the German, who has more assists than any other top-flight player this term by some distance – Everton’s Gerard Deulofeu is second with seven – and he is just seven behind Henry’s record of 20 goals in one season

At this current rate it won’t be long before the 27 year-old German breaks the Frenchman’s record – assisting a goal every 0.81 games Arsenal have played this term. No wonder the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was full of praise for the midfielder:

“That’s the way we want to play football and when it comes off it’s good but I must say Mesut [Ozil] is an absolute complete, collective player,” Wenger said.

“Sometimes he’s frustrated that he doesn’t get the same balls back but he’s a very important link in our game.”
